Some of the cybersecurity issues that trained people deal with in the office, when working from home, fall on the shoulders of the employee. While the end-of-line is not in sight, let's brush up on the basic rules of "network hygiene". And Kelvin Kombo, information security manager at GeekforGigs, will take you through this.
“So, here are five basic rules that any Internet user is recommended to adhere to:
Wi-Fi is one of the weak points in a home network . Be sure to change not only the standard password of the wireless access point, but also the password for entering the modem / router settings. Not sure how to do this? Ask your company's IT specialists for help. Also, only give access of home Wi-Fi to people you trust.
Explain to family and friends (especially children) that they cannot use your work PC. They can accidentally delete important information, change program settings, or worse, infect your device with a malware.
Use your own complex and unique password for each device, site and application, not the same for everyone. In this case, if one of your accounts is hacked, attackers will not have access to all the rest.
Constantly update operating systems and programs on your devices in order to have the latest versions with closed vulnerabilities. Moreover, it is worth updating not only computers and smartphones, but also elements of the “smart home”, smart TVs, game consoles, Internet routers, etc.
And, most importantly, remember that the best protection for your information is yourself. Attackers do not need to brute force passwords, search for backdoors in applications, or install spyware if the user himself gives them all the data. Therefore, always be suspicious of unusual e-mails and calls from supposedly technical support or from banks. Remember that real employees of such companies will not ask you for passwords and codes from SMS. "
